Made of a composite material which at the time often featured stone powder (marble, alabaster, gypsum), natural binders and colorants, it is impossible for me to tell the exact composition.
There are three visible mold lines, indicating a complex mold in Brogi's studio for a high-end Grand Tour souvenir around the turn of the century. Features the authentic Brogi signature on the base. These were finished by hand after unmolding; time and exposure have led to uneven aging and discoloration over time.
Pink staining consistent with period organic compounds (and resultant bacteria growth) used in the composite binding process. The Getty Museum commissioned a study in 2008 which explains the pink spots on this statue's front left torso, lower left thigh, center and right back and buttock. There is additional pink staining in smaller and lighter colored patches.
There are some areas of discoloration due to age and surface grime. There's one scratch or damaged area on the left buttock. There is pitting on the sculpture's chin from the mold-making process.
Height is 20.5 inches from the bottom of the base. Base measures 7 inches wide.
Sculpture weighs 9 pounds, 9 oz.
