Beautiful and hard-to-find Saara Hopea Model 1618 glass pitcher, designed for Nuutajärvi Glassworks, Finland. This iconic Scandinavian Modern design dates to the early 1950s and features Hopea's distinctive two-tier cylindrical form with a rich deep purple/amethyst glass body, applied clear glass handle and simple pulled pouring spout. Model 1618 was designed to coordinate with Hopea's stackable Model 1718 drinking glasses.
The color is especially striking — appearing nearly black in lower light and revealing a beautiful deep plum/amethyst purple when illuminated.

An excellent piece of collectible Finnish art glass and a beautiful example of mid-century Scandinavian design. The 1618 pitcher and coordinating glasses were exhibited at the 1954 Milan Triennale, where the design received a Silver Medal.
