Boldly signed by Frederick Forsyth on the front free endpaper without inscription.
First American edition, first printing, with the complete first-printing number line. Forsyth’s memoir is handsomely produced in a quarter-bound style with black spine and tan boards, silver spine lettering and his initials stamped to the front. The jacket carries its original $28.00 price and features a photograph of Forsyth piloting a Spitfire over the Weald of Kent in 2014.
The Outsider is Forsyth’s account of a life that often reads remarkably like one of his espionage novels. Before and alongside the career that produced The Day of the Jackal, The Odessa File and The Dogs of War, Forsyth was an RAF pilot and a Reuters and BBC correspondent, reporting from international flashpoints and moving through the worlds of intelligence, war and political intrigue that later informed his fiction. A signed first printing in this remarkably fresh condition makes for a particularly attractive example of his autobiography.
