Here is a rare 1840 first edition of The Royal Gallery of Pictures, published by James Bohn in London. Solid, tight copy with no stains, tears, or missing pages. Minor fauxing. Vivid green cloth with leather corners and a leather spine. Measures 10”x 12.5”
The original 19th-century owner was John Meakin Heaton, founder of Leeds University.
Later, it was acquired by San Francisco Black Mountain and San Francisco Renaissance Beat Poet Robert Duncan for his occult-centered library. Contains Duncan’s personal, self-designed “Benigno Lumine” bookplate.
Finally, it was part of Hubert Standard Upjohn’s collection.
