Barnaby Rudge, by Charles Dickens. Early American edition published in Philadelphia by E. Littell & Co., at the Office of The Museum of Foreign Literature, in 1842.
This separate American edition of Dickens’s historical novel is printed in double-column format and is complete through page 241, concluding with the words, “The End of Master Humphrey’s Clock.”
The volume retains its original marbled paper-covered boards. The black leather spine and corners are later replacements, and the pastedowns and endpapers have also been renewed. The spine is titled in gilt, “Barnaby Rudge — Dickens — 1842.”
No illustrations are present.
Condition:
Rebound and restored. The original marbled boards have been retained, with a later black leather spine and corners, together with replacement pastedowns and endpapers. The boards show rubbing, edge wear, marks, and a pale area of surface loss to the marbled paper. Internally, there is scattered foxing, toning, staining, and water marking, particularly near the opening leaves, together with occasional marginal wear and small edge losses. Complete through page 241. No illustrations are present. Please review all photographs carefully for the most accurate representation of condition.
