Lush and lovely, this nut dish or candy dish by S Kirk & Son (later Kirk-Steiff) is the classic #43 design, launched in 1920 (though the specific hallmark indicates that it was made post-1932.) The stamped pattern on the dish depicts fruits, flowers, and leaves, with a swirling pattern that reaches part way to the scalloped rim. It has three ball feet that are well-balanced.Made by the oldest continuously working silver house in the United States, it is solid sterling silver and weighs over one troy ounce.

About S KIRK & SON and the Kirk Steiff CompanyIn 1815 the master silversmith Samuel Kirk opened a neighborhood silver store in Baltimore, establishing what would eventually become the Kirk-Stieff Corporation, the oldest surviving silver company in the US. Samuel Kirk introduced to the US the repoussé method of silverwork, in which smiths hammer the reverse side of silver to produce intricate, vivid designs in low relief, and his designs of repoussé roses, daisies, and chrysanthemums became, and remain, some of the most desired patterns in history. Over the course of his career, Kirk went on to form partnerships with three of his sons, and the family\'s reputation for meticulous craftsmanship and innovative design spread nationwide; they went on to serve the White House and European luminaries, as well as the most privileged of US society. During the period when Samuel Kirk was in partnership with his son Henry Child Kirk, from 1846 and 1861, their hallmark was S KIRK & SON as marked on this dish.
