The Rollei Heidosmat manufactured by Franke & Heidecke is renowned for its shallow depth of field, similar to an Aero Ektar, but in a much smaller, lighter package. A Pacemaker Speed Graphic will still fold up with this mounted. The color and rendering are quite nice for a fast lens, in part due to its modern coatings. I am selling my spare one, but this is my go-to lens on a Speed Graphic. Look at the last photo for an example of what this looks like on the ground glass (don’t mind the stray light from the Graflex hood).
The Heidosmat is a triplet design like some famous portrait lenses. The Heliar is one of my favorite classic examples, but those very rarely have modern coatings.
The lens board is my own custom design. I fabricated it out of carbon-fiber reinforced polycarbonate. While it is plastic, it will work perfectly up to over 100 C/ 212 F… at which point you have much bigger problems…. The lens will come with a custom front and rear cap I made for it.
