Rockwell Kent was an American painter, printmaker, illustrator, and writer active in the early to mid-twentieth century. Associated with American Modernism, he is particularly known for his bold black-and-white woodcuts and stark landscape imagery inspired by remote regions including Alaska, Greenland, and Newfoundland. Kent’s graphic work is characterized by strong contrasts, simplified forms, and clear compositional structure.
