Whitman built a whole shelf of these for a generation of readers who had finished Nancy Drew and wanted more, and Robin Kane was one of the better ones. In this fifth outing the mystery unfolds around the Tournament of Roses, and the wrap-around cover painting puts the parade right across the front and back boards, which is half the pleasure of owning the book as an object. Eileen Hill wrote the series in six volumes between 1966 and 1971, keeping the pacing tight and the puzzles fair, and Sylvia Haggander\'s black-and-white interior illustrations give it the exact look of a Western Publishing juvenile mystery of the period. Book five is one of the harder ones to find complete, so a sound copy is worth having whether you are reading the series through or filling a shelf of Whitman hardcovers.
