Regency Coalport Porcelain Covered Sugar Bowl Tureen — John Rose, c. 1810–1825 For Sale

A superb and highly refined example of early English porcelain, this elegant covered bowl was produced at Coalport during the John Rose period, at the height of Regency taste and craftsmanship. Pieces of this quality — particularly unmarked luxury wares — were intended for discerning patrons and cabinet display rather than mass production.

The bowl is decorated with a deep, luminous cobalt blue ground, richly overlaid with lavish hand-applied gilding in scrolling foliate and sunburst motifs. The decoration frames beautifully painted floral reserves, featuring roses and companion blooms rendered in soft, painterly enamels of pink, red, blue, and green — a hallmark of early 19th-century Coalport artistry.

The elegant covered form, with graceful gilt scroll handles and a finely modeled lid with gilded finial, reflects the restrained yet luxurious proportions favored during the Regency era. The porcelain body displays the warm, creamy tone characteristic of early Coalport, with an unpolished footrim showing authentic kiln grit and firing marks consistent with early manufacture.

Unmarked, as expected for the period, and entirely correct for John Rose–era Coalport.
