Offered here is an attractive collection of six antique banknotes issued by El Banco Español during the final years of Spanish colonial rule.
The collection includes:
1896 Issues
• 10 Pesos — Series E — Serial No. 1167624 — with red PLATA overprint on reverse
• 5 Pesos — Series F — Serial No. 0616476 — with red PLATA overprint on reverse
• 1 Peso — Series G — Serial No. 1328231
• 50 Centavos — Series H — Serial No. 0855747
1897 Issues
• 20 Centavos — Series I — Serial No. 0227354
• 10 Centavos — Series K — Serial No. 1643076
The notes were printed by the American Bank Note Company, New York, whose name can be seen on the notes.
The 5- and 10-peso notes are especially attractive, with large red PLATA overprints across their reverses.
These banknotes are approximately 130 years old and show age-related wear including toning, staining, folds/creases, edge and corner wear and other signs of handling and storage. Please carefully examine all photographs, as they form an important part of the condition description.
