Rare Vintage Japanese Okina Mask. 37 years old, made in 1989.
Okina is the oldest Noh play in Japan, history from Heian period over 800 years ago. Okina is the god of longevity and good fortune. He always comes first on stage to bless the audience.
This one is ceramic, made in 1989. 1989 is the last year of Showa and first year of Heisei. Special year for Japanese collectors.
Why it is rare:- Small kiln production in Japan in 70s-80s. Most kilns are closed now.- 37 years old, not a new reproduction. New ones are mostly plastic or resin.- Showa period, Made in Japan.
