Up for sale is a rare collector\'s piece: a vintage 1933/34 Rolleicord I (Model 1) \"Art Deco\" Twin-Lens Reflex (TLR) medium format camera, manufactured by Franke & Heidecke in Braunschweig, Germany. Based on the taking lens serial number (1472904), this dates to the early production run of this iconic model. It features an all-metal body highlighted by the collectible nickel-plated geometric diamond pattern faceplate and a desirable removable back.
• Usage Status: Untested with film; selling strictly AS-IS as a stunning display piece, vintage photo prop, or restoration candidate.
• Shutter: Surprisingly solid for its age! The shutter appears crisp and responsive at high speeds. The 1-second slow speed runs just slightly slow.
• Lenses: Fitted with a Carl Zeiss Jena Triotar 7.5cm f/4.5 taking lens (Serial #1472904) and a Heidoscop-Anastigmat 7.5cm viewing lens. For a ~90-year-old camera, the glass appears remarkably clean with typical vintage dust.
• Viewfinder: The viewfinder image is dark/dim, typical of this era, and will benefit from a mirror cleaning or replacement if intended for active shooting. See photo taken in morning sun.
• Removable Back & Versatility: This early version features a removable back, which made cleaning the film chamber and internal rollers a breeze. Historically, this removable design also allowed early versions of adapters (such as early precursors to the Rolleikin system) to accept alternative formats like 35mm film or glass plates (adapters not included).
