This is a very unique 1938 Cincinnati Reds Willard Hershberger rookie jersey from Ebbets Field Flannels that somehow got past quality control with \"Cincinnati\" misspelled as \"Cinncinati\". This was technically sold by EFF as an early 1940s Cincinnati Tigers jersey, but I happened to know that the Tigers uniforms of the early 40s were the Reds old 1937 and \'38 road uniforms that they donated to the Tigers after the Reds switched up their style for the 1939 season. And because the moroffer part of me thought it would be cool to have a Willard Hershberger jersey from the first time I heard his tragic story, I ordered one with Hershberger\'s number 5 on the back. (If you don\'t know the story of Willard Hershberger, here it is very briefly: in 1940 he became the only MLB player to date to commit suicide in the middle of the baseball season. This was awful, and the Reds rightly declared that they would retire his number at the end of the year. However, the Reds went on to find themselves in the World Series, and they were apparently so preoccupied by the Fall Classic, and so euphoric after finally beating Detroit in 7 games, that they completely forgot about retiring Willard\'s number. In 1967 another Reds catcher, Johnny Bench, began wearing number 5, and the number was eventually retired for Bench, with poor Willard Hershberger completely forgotten by the Reds.) When it was delivered and I noticed the misspelling, Ebbets Field Flannels customer service was less than helpful. I called them initially, and I think the lady I spoke with thought I was lying about the error. After providing photos in an email, they eventually gave me an option of a 50% refund, or a replacement after sending it back at my own expense plus another 6 to 8-week waiting period. I took the partial refund, and then more or less forgot about the jersey the same way that the Reds forgot about Willard Hershberger. I\'m offering it now because a collector\'s market has since arisen around the Ebbets Field Flannels brand, and surely one of you EFF collectors would love to have such an oddity in your collection. It\'s not often you find an error jersey like this out there in the wild. It is a size 2XL, which roughly translates to a size 52, and is still in excellent condition because I never actually wore it.
