All five pieces remain together as the original educational set for which they were created — a rare survival, as these were distributed primarily through Hawaiian schools and community programs and were never widely sold commercially.
2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the Hōkūleʻa's 1976 maiden voyage to Tahiti, an event the Polynesian Voyaging Society is actively commemorating. These books were published that same year to support the educational mission around the voyage.
