This is an original 1893 edition of "Vigilante Days and Ways: The Pioneers of the Rockies" (Volume 1) by Nathaniel Pitt Langford. Published by D.D. Merrill Co. (New York/St. Paul).
Most importantly, this copy features a historic, handwritten presentation inscription from the AUTHOR himself, N.P. Langford (famed frontiersman and first superintendent of Yellowstone National Park).
The elegant 19th-century Spencerian script reads:
"Dr. J. E. Schadle from N. P. Lang[ford] St. Paul Feb. 27, 1894."
It was gifted directly by Langford to Dr. Jacob Schadle, a pioneering and prominent 19th-century physician in St. Paul, Minnesota.
CONDITION NOTE (Please Read):
The historic inscription page is detached/torn along the right edge, which cuts off the end of Langford's last name (shows "N.P. Lang..."). The rest of the script, including his initials, the recipient's name, the city, and the 1894 date, remains beautifully intact and perfectly legible. The book itself is in good antique condition with light exterior shelf wear and a strong, intact binding.
Because the page is detached, this rare association copy is priced dynamically lower than a flawless version, offering a fantastic opportunity to own a genuine piece of Langford history at a discount.
