RARE 1860s Round Thermoplastic Cased TINTYPE Young CIVIL WAR Union Soldier wearing a Forage cap. Frame is 1-5/8 inch and weighs 12.2 grams. This amazing piece of Civil War history is approx 166 years old!!!Preowned and Used...... Amazing tiny Thermoplastic ornate frame and ornate metal (probably brass) inner rim protector mat. Thermoplastic frame has a chip missing at the bottom of the frame (see closeup picture showing with the point of an ink pen for size). There are black spots on the tintype picture. The picture is "colorized" on the soldier's cheeks - he has light pinkish tone rosy cheeks but that sweet feature doesn't show well in the pictures. The picture is protected by a round clear glass which is held in by the brass rim "mat". There is also a small area of white marks on the back side. (see closeup picture). The Thermoplastic frame is very ornate and lovely and only has the one chip in the frame at the bottom. We see no other cracks or repairs..... Beautiful piece of Civil War history that is approximately 166 years old!!!
The tiny frame measures 1-5/8" diameter and weighs 12.2 grams. So very rare to have a Round frame that wasn't a brooch - this is an amazing treasure!!
