This listingis for quarter plate Washington Monument, Richmond, Virginia union case, Berg1-17S on the obverse, and a Geometric Berg 3-16 on the reverse. This rare caseis as close to mint as they come with no chips, cracks or other defects.
The casehouses an ambrotype of a well dressed young man. The glass plate of theambrotype has been sealed to the cover glass and a case of measles hasdeveloped between the plates.

After more than 40 years of collecting Daguerreanera photographic images and cases (mostly thermoplastic Union Cases oftenmistakenly referred to as “Gutta Percha”), I’ve decided it’s time to startselling off my collection. Used to protect daguerreotypes, ambrotypes andtintypes, the cases are an art form in their own right. Over time I will belisting more than 350 cases, including some particularly rare and unique examples,along with 200+ uncased images that I acquired over the years.
A Noteabout Condition. I leave cases and images in their “as-found” condition. I donot attempt to repair cases. If original seals are present on an image I willnot disturb them. If an image is unsealed, I will clean the cover glass ifnecessary but I do not attempt to clean the images themselves.
