BETHANY’S PARANORMAL WATCHER SET — MALE & FEMALE HAUNTED VESSELS
Bethany was my longtime mentor, a New Orleans-area spiritual practitioner, medium and collector of paranormal objects. I grew up being trained by her and spent much of my childhood around her collection. This pair sat on Bethany’s mantle for years. And they freaked me out!
Bethany always called them watchers. They hold paranormal energy that is difficult to truly define. She got them on a trade with another collector in the early 1970’s. She was obsessed with strictly paranormal items at that time.
Exactly who or what they are was never established. There were no confirmed names or human histories attached to them. And that really didn’t seem to matter she just called the Dudley and Doris. She also didn’t put up with Doris’s BS. As a child,Doris made me feel watched in a way I never forgot. I would peek over at her and immediately get that sharp, almost offended, “What are you looking at?” feeling—and I would look away. She still has that same attitude with me now. Very opinionated, very judgmental, and completely unimpressed by excuses. If she thinks you are wasting your time or ignoring your potential, her comments feel more like, “Really? This is what you’re doing? Get up. Do something. You know better.” She does not gently encourage.
He is calm, passive and easygoing. His energy is very much: ignore her, sit down, enjoy being still. I tried to investigate a few years ago, but Doris mocked me. And I got into a battle of the wits till I just screamed, “Whatever Doris!” What is 100 percent clear that they carry two very different personalities.
She watches, judges and notices everything.
When you are balanced, they tend to feel balanced. When you are not, she becomes much more noticeable while he acts as the calmer counterweight.
Together they are watching the room, the people in it and everything being said.
This can become a little embarrassing when visitors enter my home and she decides she finds someone annoying. Her comments are not subtle. I may suddenly get impressions like, “Why is she still talking?” “He’s loud.” “She asks too many questions.” “They need to go home.” “Why did you invite them?” or even “You know you don’t like this person.” She seems especially irritated by people who dominate conversations, complain constantly, brag, interrupt, act fake, or bring chaotic energy into the room. Meanwhile, he is usually the complete opposite and gives me more of a “They’re fine. Let them be.” That contrast can make having company interesting. She judges. He tolerates. And I’m stuck in the middle trying not to react to either one in front of guests. Sometimes I separate them in different rooms because I really think he needs a break from her.
That contrast can make having company may include:
• strong feeling of being watched
• sudden STRONG atmospheric shifts
• peripheral movement, expression and eye shifts in vessel, I have rubbed my eyes many times to make sure that Im seeing what I’m seeing. When I was little she made me cry and Bethany would fuss at her, but I still felt her.
• tapping or subtle sounds near the vessels. Her it’s her.
• intuitive comments or short impressions
• sudden nudges to address something you have been avoiding
Neither Bethany nor I considered them harmful. Their activity is observational, atmospheric and highly personality-driven.
They also come with a ritual necklace amulet I added charged to enhance intuition, intuitive hearing and receptivity to subtle communication. I originally offered it to her because I thought it might make her like me more and stop commenting when I was wasting time scrolling through my phone.
It didn’t.
The spirits are housed in a matched pair of vintage figural bust vases, approximately 8 inches tall, with applied floral details and matching crowned A.S. maker’s stamps underneath. They are best described as vintage Italian Capodimonte-style bisque porcelain. The male has a small dark surface scuff to the forehead, shown in photos.
They have always been together and need to remain together. However give him breaks! They have been around pets and other spirits. Harmless.
They watch. They notice. They comment. And yes—she still doesn’t like me.
