PAIR A RUDIN #615 FRENCH ART DECO BARREL BACK CLUB CHAIRS REUPHOLSTERY PROJECT

These chairs with their round envelope shape, sloping integrated arms and low stance draw directly from the French Art Deco traditions— most notably the tonneau and crapaud shapes of the 1920’s and 1930’s. A purist French Deco interpretation of JMF, Maison Dominique, Jules Leleu, Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Paul Dupre-Lafon, Paul Follot. These examples also bridge American Mid-Century Modern (Wormley/ Dunbar, Pearsall, Robsjohn-Gibbings) and Italian High Style Glamour of Gio Ponti. (Until recently, these were placed beside a Karl Springer goatskin parchment table and worked beautifully).
More recent practitioners of this style are Holly Hunt, Christian Liagre, Rose Tarlow, Kelly Wearstler, Poltrona Frau, and even Baker, Thomasville and Ralph Lauren.
The rounded envelope shape, low stance, integrated sloping arms, and fan-back fluting of the A. Rudin No. 615 draw directly from the iconic 1930s French Art Deco Crapaud (toad) and Tonneau (barrel) chair traditions.
These are sold in as is, used condition— truly in need of a deep clean / refresh at minimum. (SEE ALL PICS!) We held onto them for several years with the intent of covering them in chocolate mohair, but just added a large sofa to the TV area, so are reluctantly letting that vision go.
These still maintain great structural integrity and the foam has held up quite well, though one may prefer to use a firm memory foam if one likes to add a bit more height and firmness.
