When Olympus launched the C-5000 Zoom in late 2003, it was aimed squarely at enthusiasts who\'d outgrown basic point-and-shoots. It replaced the older C-4000 Zoom with a more compact design almost 20% smaller than its predecessor, while keeping the full manual feature set that made the line popular. This is a camera you can genuinely grow into.
Real creative control:The C-5000 offers a full range of exposure modes — Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, full Manual control, and 6 preset Creative Scene modes. Nearly every setting can be adjusted by hand — focus, exposure, white balance, and ISO — which puts it well ahead of the typical compact of its era. The 3x optical zoom lens is f/2.8–4.8, equivalent to 38–114mm on a 35mm camera, plus 4x digital zoom. Shutter speeds range from 1/1,000 all the way to 16 seconds, opening up night and long-exposure shooting that most compacts can\'t touch.
Standout features:A built-in flash with 7 different flash modes, plus a dedicated hot shoe for connecting an external flash — a rare and genuinely useful feature on a camera this size. Super Macro mode focuses as close as 1 inch for extreme close-up work, and you can add on wide-angle and telephoto conversion lenses and filters to extend the camera\'s range. It also records over 2 minutes of video in QuickTime Movie mode.
