(more commonly known as 17-4 PH, or simply 17-4; also known as UNS 17400) is a grade of martensitic precipitation hardened stainless steel. It contains approximately 15–17.5% chromium and 3–5% nickel, as well as 3–5% copper.
Just as all martensitic metals are,17-4 is magnetic.
17-4 PH tolerates post-production machining and electroplating very well. The alloy used in the manufacturing process produces components with a matte surface finish that require no secondary deburring or polishing after sintering, but thanks to the chromium composition, the surface polishes up nicely with simple caroffere tooling if you need a “shinier” finish.
