Nicipe verae (was Ornithogalum), a Gethyllis-like bulb but much easier togrow. This is a diminutive winter-grower with a mature bulb about thumb tipsize. Leaves emerge in the fall and dry up by spring. Before the new leaves, in summerto autumn, compact spikes of pale flowers appear-- with the persistent dead foliagethey are surprisingly cryptic. There is a wide range of “Gethyllis mimics”across various genera of SA geophytes and this is one of the rarer of these.Sale item (examples in 5th photo) is a flowering size bulb.
