Moeris Grands Prix 17 Jewels – Hand-Wound – Running Swiss Vintage Watch – 1950s
A characterful vintage Moeris Grands Prix hand-wound wristwatch, featuring a silver sunburst dial, gold-tone applied indices, and a classic Swiss 17-jewel mechanical movement.
The watch is running at the time of listing. Please note that this is an unserviced vintage watch with visible signs of age and use. The chrome-plated case shows plating wear, scratches, and surface damage. The acrylic crystal has visible age-related cracks and surface wear. The winding feel is gritty and not smooth, and some movement screws appear to be missing. Please review all photos carefully before purchasing.
Moeris is one of the lesser-known but historically important Swiss watch brands. Founded in the Saint-Imier watchmaking region, Moeris built a reputation for reliable, well-made civilian watches and became a high-volume manufacturer during the first half of the 20th century. By the 1950s, Moeris watches were appreciated for their practical engineering, robust construction, and accessible Swiss quality.
Moeris also has an interesting connection to Japanese watch history. Early Japanese watchmaking, including some early Seiko-related movement development, is often discussed in connection with Moeris-style movements. For collectors of both Swiss and Japanese vintage watches, this makes Moeris a fascinating name.
This example carries the “GRANDS PRIX” marking on the caseback, together with “ANTIMAGNETIC,” “WATERPROOF,” “INCABLOC,” “SWISS,” and “STAINLESS BACK.” These markings reflect the practical features expected from a mid-century Swiss wristwatch: anti-magnetic protection, shock protection, and a stainless steel back.
Please note that, despite the historical “WATERPROOF” marking on the caseback, water resistance is not guaranteed due to age.
Estimated production period: 1950s, possibly mid-1950s based on the serial number and overall design.
Dial:
Silver sunburst dial with applied gold-tone hour markers and matching gold-tone hands.
The dial is signed “MOERIS” at 12 o’clock, with “17 JEWELS / ANTIMAGNET” printed above 6 o’clock.
The dial shows ageing, light discoloration, and marks consistent with age.
The overall appearance remains attractive, with a warm vintage character.
Case:
Chrome-plated case with stainless steel back.
Case diameter: approx. 33.6 mm / 1.32 inches excluding the crown.
The case shows visible wear, plating loss, scratches, and age-related marks, especially around the bezel, lugs, and case edges.
These signs of use are clearly visible in the photos and should be considered part of the watch’s vintage condition.
