MID-20TH CENTURY CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE "DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER" PORCELAIN VASE
A finely decorated Chinese porcelain vase dating to the mid-20th century, circa 1950s–1970s.
The vase is painted in famille rose enamels with an elegant figural scene inspired by the celebrated Chinese novel "Dream of the Red Chamber" (Hong Lou Meng / 红楼梦).
The principal scene depicts two finely dressed figures within a garden setting, surrounded by flowering prunus trees, rocks, balustrades and garden scenery.
The reverse is inscribed in Chinese calligraphy:
A poetic inscription referring directly to the Dream of the Red Chamber and the destined relationships at the heart of the story.
The neck is decorated in black enamel with a finely painted geometric and pendant border.
There is also a red seal mark to the reverse beneath the inscription.
The underside bears an apocryphal four-character Qianlong mark in iron-red. The vase dates to the mid-20th century and is not being offered as an 18th-century Qianlong-period piece.

Approximately 22 cm.
Condition:
There is a hairline crack beginning at the rim and extending down onto the body before changing direction and continuing approximately horizontally/diagonally.
Otherwise the vase displays well, with general minor age-related and manufacturing imperfections.
