Issued on 1 March 1934 to commemorate the enthronement of Puyi as Emperor Kang Teh (Kangde) of Manchukuo. Puyi had previously been the last emperor of China\'s Qing dynasty, making this issue particularly interesting to collectors of both Chinese and Manchurian history.
The design depicts the Qinmin Building in Hsinking, present-day Changchun. This was Puyi\'s principal office building within the imperial complex, where he conducted official business and received foreign representatives; it also housed the imperial throne room.
The stamps were finely recess engraved by the Japanese Government Printing Office in Tokyo and designed by Tameji Oona. They were produced on distinctive watermarked granite paper, containing fine colored fibers incorporated into the paper as a security feature, and perforated 12½.
This intact MNH block preserves six examples together with substantial original corner sheet margins, giving it considerably greater visual appeal than individual singles.
