This 100% Swiss-made diver\'s watch is part of MWC\'s latest heavy-duty range. Built with a robust stainless steel case, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and a scratch-resistant ceramic bezel, this watch is suitable for diving with mixed gases at extreme depths, thanks to its 100ATM (1000m/3280ft) water resistance rating. It also features a wider 24mm strap and a bezel designed for easy grip in extreme cold. These watches are specifically designed for use by professional divers under the most challenging conditions.
All MWC 100ATM models are equipped with a helium escape valve, a crucial feature for saturation divers who spend extended periods at great depths. Helium molecules, being among the smallest, can enter the watch even though the seals keep water and other gases out. If not released, the helium can create internal pressure that may damage the watch, potentially blowing out the crystal or crown. The helium escape valve automatically releases the helium during decompression, preventing any harm to the watch or wearer.
Why is helium used in deep-sea diving?
Helium is preferred in mixed-gas diving because, unlike nitrogen, it doesn\'t cause adverse effects like nitrogen narcosis. Professional divers often work in pressurized environments filled with an oxygen/helium mix. Without the helium escape valve, rising to the surface could cause the built-up gas to damage the watch. Although most divers won\'t encounter such conditions, it\'s essential for deep-diver watches like the 100ATM range to include this feature.
