Not that long ago, the local railway station was one of the busiest places in town. Traveling salesmen arrived with their sample cases, students went to and returned from college, soldiers went off to war, and occasionally a presidential candidate gave a speech from an observation car platform.
Towns with significantly more passenger traffic often had train sheds which covered one or more tracks and offered protection from the elements. This made loading passengers, baggage, express parcels, and mail much easier during foul weather. Union Station is designed to add a touch of class for arrivals and departures!
Union Station has a 13-1/16\" by 7-7/8\" footprint and a 6-1/4\" height clearance for rolling stock. The roof has transparent skylights with intricate framing, and has overhead illumination. There are 2-1/4\" wide platforms on both sides. A sturdy base connects both platforms. Passengers, railway workers, and luggage are posed on one platform, but there is plenty of room for you to add more of your own figures or detail pieces on both platforms.
Installation is easy. Union Station is designed to be compatible with tubular track as well as brands with plastic roadbed such as Fastrak® or RealTrax®. Simply disconnect a few track sections, place the structure, and reconnect the track on top of the base. Now you’re ready to run trains.
The overhead lighting requires a Menard’s® 4.5-volt power supply (sold separately). You can connect it through a single plug over the tabletop or from beneath the shop from a drop-down pigtail plug. The lighting creates a neat visual when running your trains in dimmer light. Adding Union Station will give your train stations bit of glamor from another era.
