The Jewelry
The striking jewelry worn by Callas in the film was designed by Piero Tosi himself and created by a Roman workshop specializing in cinematic ornaments. Unlike the legendary personal collection of Callas—which included masterpieces by Cartier, Faraone, and Van Cleef & Arpels—the film's jewelry was costume jewelry made of gold-plated metal and non-precious materials. These massive, archaic-looking pieces were essential in defining Medea's "otherworldly" and sacred majesty.
