Wonderful work by the listed Bolivian/American artist Antonio Sotomayor (1902-1985). Born in Chalumani, Bolivia, Sotomayor began his art studies in La Paz under Belgian master Adolf Lambert and by age 15 was contributing illustrations to Bolivian periodicals. After settling in San Francisco in 1923, he continued his art training at the CSFA. From 1946-50 he taught at the California School of Fine Arts. He became internationally renowned for his art and became good friends with many other known artist, see 2nd pic details.He is in the permanent collection of many museums as well as private institutions such as IBM, etc.. Shown in many one man exhibitions in Mexico, France, Spain & Italy, as well as South America and the US. He is known as the "Artist Laureate" of San Francisco.One of his works is currently displayed at The Smithsonian in Washington D.C. His works are also housed at The San Diego Museum of Art & San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He was a member in good standing of San Francisco Art Association and the Bohemian Club.
