A striking Korean celadon vase bearing the classic form of a rounded, egg-shaped body tapering to a slender flared neck. The entire surface is enveloped in densely hand-carved incisions of interlocking cloud-scroll or karakusa (唐草) arabesque, creating an almost textile-like ground.Distributed sporadically across this field are quatrefoil cartouches, each reserving a chrysanthemum (菊) rendered in both white and iron-red (copper-red) slip inlay. The celadon glaze itself is a pale jade-blue with a gentle translucency and signature craquelure; pooling slightly in the carved recesses of the scrollwork and lending the surface a luminous, layered depth. On the collar of the vase is a rosary arabesque of white chrysanthemums. Very good condition. No box.
