This lovely vase stands 17 inches tall and will be a focal point of any room. It is a wonderful example of Wiinblad\'s most famous group of designs for Rosenthal, \'1001 Nacht\' (1001 Nights). It is whimsical and beautiful with two figures and a cobalt background and gold details.
Bjørn Wiinblad (20 September 1919 – 8 June 2006), was a Danish painter, designer and artist in ceramics, silver, bronze, textiles, and graphics. His work has been shown widely in Europe, the United States, Japan, Australia and Canada. Wiinblad was named Man of the Year in New York in 1985 and was awarded the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s Cultural Prize of 1995.
Wiinblad was an important designer for the Rosenthal porcelain company which was founded in Germany in 1879. His most popular Rosenthal dinnerware design, Romance (Romanze), was a typical Wiinblad design in terms of its incredible level of fine decorative detail. Starting in 1971, he also designed an annual commemorative Christmas plate for Rosenthal.
Museums the world over have Wiinblad\'s work in their collections. Among these are the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Stockholm\'s National Museum.
