First pair of images show flower details and a large, untrained specimen plant in an 8" bulb pan. Images three and four show the plants offered for sale, which are recently divided offsets planted in AAAA NZ sphagnum moss in 4" pots. Near flowering sized pups.
Krenakanthus roseolilacinus was the first species described in this microendemic Brazilian bromeliad genus, and was published in 2014. Unlike its sib species, K. ribeiroanus, this species has soft glabrous stems and leaves, and develops long, ropy clustering growths over time. In many ways, it is more akin to a spiderwort (Commelinaceae) than a Cryptanthoid bromeliad. Offsets both basally and from nodes along older stems. Nice, brightly colored flowers. Easy under intermediate conditions and fast growing when conditions are to its liking. Have never grown it "hot" but probably more tolerant of warm nights than K. ribeiroanus. Prefers pure water and an orchid-like fertilizer regimen. Rarely offered for sale.
