----------------This is a landscape painting of Kyoto\'s Gion-Shinbashi area.This neighborhood is the birthplace of Gion, an essential part of Kyoto\'s cultural history.In 1673 (Kanbun 6), six outer towns, including Benzaiten-cho, were established within the Gion Shrine territory. In 1712 (Shotoku 2), six inner towns, including Motoyoshi-cho and Sueyoshi-cho, were established, and the area has continued to thrive to this day.
During this time, the area served as a stage for the Edo period\'s popular Ukiyo-zoshi Joruri and Kabuki musical performances, which reached a height of splendor and continue to thrive as traditional performing arts today.
Today, Shimbashi-dori, the south side of the Shirakawa River, and the entire townscape along Kiridoshi Pass have been designated an \"Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings\" and are considered important cultural assets from an architectural perspective as well.Shimbashi-dori in particular is lined with Gion\'s distinctive machiya teahouse-style buildings, with stone-paved streets lined on both sides with black lattice windows and blinds hanging from the second floor, making it the most impressive streetscape in Gion, brimming with Gion atmosphere.----------------
