In 2005, Kala founder Mike Upton set out to make the ukulele widely accessible to all players, and 20 years later, Kala has achieved that goal with quality instruments any player is proud to own. To celebrate Kala’s 20th anniversary, Mike went above and beyond, hand-selecting the Hawaiian koa wood for each top from Kala’s private stock to ensure the best possible aesthetic and tone. Built solid for added resonance, the African mahogany back and sides are dark but warm, perfectly matching the unique top. Adding to the top-shelf appointments, the body and neck are bound in a dark strip of rosewood with a bright abalone rosette and trim adding a splash of color. Finally, the headstock’s rosewood veneer features a California poppy inlay, honoring Kala’s origins and rounding out the instrument’s one-of-a-kind build.
