This heavy, large ruffled iridescent blue, green, purple “Aquatic Series” vessel is unsigned but authentic from his studio. Although James Nowak appears to have signed the great majority of his studio-glass work, documented unsigned pieces do exist. Pieces are authenticated sold through reputable Art Galleries.
This piece has no written documentation/provenanceThis substantial sculpture measures an impressive 19 inches in height by 16 inches in width at the center point. Based on the visual style and marine motif, this piece is highly consistent with the masterfully crafted blown art glass sculptures by James Nowak.This vessel is heavily encrusted colorful aquarium marine tapering fluted art glass vase. The vessel is clearly a substantial studio-glass piece with extensive murrine/cane work and dichroic-looking foil effects. It has oval tapering form, ruffled rim, with polychrome iridescent/dichroic materials. It has unusual folded/wavy blue rim and similar murrine panels.The base or pontil area on this high-end studio glass piece is almost always highly polished and smooth to the touch, designed to serve as a flat, stable bottom for the sculpture while cleanly removing blowpipe (punty rod). This vase shows two pontil marks that have not been removed.
