3. The Little Funeral: A dramatic and almost silent episode that describes the dignified and heartbreaking journey of the funeral procession of a small child.
4. The Gamblers: A decayed noble count and inveterate gambler (played by Vittorio De Sica himself) is regularly and humiliatingly defeated at cards by the very young son of his doorman.
5. Teresa: A prostitute (Silvana Mangano) is married to a rich and mysterious suitor, discovering only on her wedding night that the marriage is an act of pure moral compensation orchestrated out of the man\'s sense of guilt.
