A rare Ilex-Calumet Series-S Caltar 8ยฝ" (215mm) f/5.6 large format lens in a Copal leaf shutter, bearing the Polaroid designation indicating use with Polaroid's large format camera system. This 6-element, 4-group plasmat design was developed by Manuel Kiner at Ilex Optical for Calumet and is widely considered one of the finest American-made large format lenses of its era. With a 301mm image circle. f/5.6 version in a Copal shutter represents a later, refined production run. Ansel Adams is documented to have used this lens. Comes with original Ilex front cap. Shutter speeds T, B, 1, 2, 4, 8, 15, 30, 60, 125.
Used condition. Glass clean with no fungus or scratches noted. Shutter works at all settings. Cap included. Normal handling wear to exterior. These lenses were all owned by a professional portrait photographer. They all have some dust from sitting for some time, but everything was stored in a climate controlled environment
