How to break-in a leather holster
Maxx Carry Full Grain Leather Holsters are made of the strongestfull grain cowhide natural leather. They are hand-made and molded. If you\'ve never used real full grain molded leather holsters before, know that gun fit may be tight out of the box and may require a brief break in period toget that perfect fit & comfort. But after a short break in period they mold to your gun and body beautifully.Toeffectively break in your new holster, please ensure your firearm is unloadedand there are no rounds in the chamber before following these instructions.Here are a few techniques we recommend to speed up the break in period or get alooser retention if you desire:
Following these steps below should help with thebreaking-in process.
Initial Work:Most of the time,just inserting the gun in and out of the holster forcefully several times is all that is required.Also, you can insert your fingersinto the bottom opening of the holster and apply pressure to gently pry itapart. Our holsters are designed to be sturdy, so don\'t hesitate to use someforce. Spend about a minute working on the bottom, and then repeat the processat the top for approximately 20 seconds. If you notice any specific area wherethe gun gets stuck or hangs up inside the holster, push from the inside at thatspot. Try inserting the firearm. If necessary, repeat this step a second time.
Break-in Gradually Method:Also, over a short time with regular wear, the holster will naturally break in gradually and mold to your firearm perfectly. When you get a new leather holster, break it in gradually by using it regularly with your firearm. This helps the leather stretch & mold to the shape of your gun and body for a perfect fit.
That is all that is required most of the time to get that perfect fit and retention. But if desire even looser retention, you can follow the additional steps below to expand the holster even more, but not required.
Plastic Bag Method: Takea plastic grocery bag or zip-lock bag and wrap it tightly around your unloadedfirearm, paying extra attention to creating a thicker and bulkier wrap aroundthe front sight and barrel. Fully insert the wrapped gun into the holster andleave it overnight. Keep in mind that removing the firearm from the holster maybe a bit challenging after this step. However, once you unwrap the firearm andplace it back in the holster, it should fit more comfortably.
Wax Paper Method: Wrapyour unloaded firearm in wax paper with the wax side facing outward (away fromthe gun). Gently rub the wrapped firearm on the inside of the holster. Deeplyseat the wrapped firearm in the holster and leave it overnight. The nextmorning, draw the still-wrapped firearm from the holster a few times to allowthe wax to coat the inside of the holster.If you want more expansion/stretch, use more than one layer of plasticbag wrapped around the gun.
