The De Havilland Canada DHC-7, popularly known as the Dash 7, is a turboprop-powered regional airlinerwith short take-off and landing(STOL) performance. Variants were built with 50–54 seats. It first flew in 1975 and remained in production until 1988 when the parent company, De Havilland Canadawas purchased by Boeingin 1986 and later sold to Bombardier. In 2006 Bombardier sold the type certificatefor the aircraft design to Viking Air,which was later reorganized as De Havilland Canada.Continental Airlines was a major international airline in the United States that was founded in 1934 as Varney Speed Lines. Continental started out as one of the smaller carriers in the United States, that provided very fine, almost luxurious service against the larger major airlines. In 1981, Texas International Airlines acquired controlling interest in Continental. In 2010, Continental was merged with United Airlines. At the time of the merger, Continental had 350 aircraft in their inventory with all of then acquiring the United Airlines livery.
Continental Expresswas the brand nameused by a number of independently owned regional airlinesproviding commuter airliner and regional jet feeder service under agreement with Continental Airlines. There were 220 aircraft in the Continental Express fleet.
This particular De Havilland DHC-7 (N47RM) was delivered to Continental Express on 01 September 1990 and provided service until October of 1996 when it was sold to Maverick Airways. In May of 1998, N47RM was sold to Venezuelan airline Linea Turistica Aereotuy (LTA) and re-registered as YV-640C. It provided service until it was retired and placed into storage.
