Offered here is an authentic First Edition, First Printing (2000) of Hawaiian Seashells by Mike Severns, published by Island Heritage Publishing.
Even the ordinary later printings of this title are rare and difficult to find. This copy is rarer still because it comes from the book’s original first-edition, first-printing run, clearly identified on the copyright page as “First Edition, First Printing — 2000.” The asking price reflects the scarcity of this specific version, not simply the value of a standard used reference book.
This is a serious purchase for shell collectors, marine-life enthusiasts, divers, researchers, and collectors of Hawaiian natural-history books who understand the significance of owning the earliest printing of an already scarce title.
The book is in excellent condition for its age, especially considering how likely a seashell reference guide would have been used at beaches, on boats, near water, or during collecting trips. Books of this type are especially vulnerable to sand, moisture, bending, page wear, and heavy handling, yet this copy has survived remarkably well.
The interior is exceptionally clean. For the most part, the pages look as though they were printed yesterday. There is:

The only noteworthy blemish is impact damage to the bottom portion of the spine. That area was moderately affected, and the impact caused a minor effect to the bottom-left portion of approximately half the pages. Importantly, the bottom portion of the spine still securely holds the pages, and the damage does not interfere with reading, viewing the photographs, or normal use. It is noticeable, but nothing especially severe given the age, format, and likely usage circumstances of the book.
This is not simply a used shell guide. It is a scarce example of an already hard-to-find title in its rarest original publication state, preserved in unusually strong condition more than two decades after publication.
