Attractive antique volume in a decorative three-quarter leather binding with raised spine bands, gilt lettering and decoration, leather corners, and marbled endpapers.
Illustrated by A. de Neuville, with numerous historical illustrations throughout as well as full-page engraved plates. This volume covers the Renaissance and Reformation period of French history, including Francis I, Charles V, Henry II, Francis II, Charles IX, Henry III, and the Wars of Religion.
The exterior shows age-related wear and evidence of prior moisture exposure, including staining/discoloration to the boards. Some resulting waviness and unevenness can be seen internally, particularly at the marbled endpapers and in portions of the text block. Despite this, the interior is generally clean and the illustrations remain crisp and attractive. Both boards remain solid.
