Description
Historic original mounted photograph of Guglielmo Marconi seated at his receiving apparatus in St. John’s, Newfoundland, dated December 12, 1901 — the day he successfully received the first transatlantic wireless signal (the Morse letter “S”) from Poldhu, Cornwall.
The image shows Marconi in a striped suit and hat beside the early radio equipment. Lower right corner bears the number 93939.
Verso features a clear period typed label reading:
“Marconi at receiving set at St. Johns Newfoundland December 12, 1901”
Also present: handwritten “Marconi” and “Radio 13,” plus a contemporary newspaper clipping announcing Marconi’s death in 1937 with a quote from RCA President David Sarnoff.
