Gretsch 6117 Double Anniversary Sunburst 1966 w/ OHSC

Condition: Very Good

The best kind of vintage guitar doesn\'t need to shout to get your attention—and this 1966 Gretsch 6117 Double Anniversary is a perfect example. Built in Brooklyn during the final years of Gretsch\'s original New York production, this Sunburst 6117 has the understated elegance, unmistakable character, and genuine mid-\'60s pedigree that make vintage Gretsches so special. And with its original hard-shell case, this is an especially appealing package for anyone who appreciates the history as much as the guitar itself.

The 6117 was Gretsch\'s two-pickup Double Anniversary, introduced as part of the company\'s 75th-anniversary family of guitars. By 1966, the model featured a fully hollow laminated maple body, 24½\" scale, rosewood fingerboard with thumbnail inlays, and a pair of Gretsch HiLo\'Tron single-coil pickups. The HiLo\'Trons are a huge part of the charm: clear, articulate, and wonderfully open, with that unmistakable Gretsch sparkle and twang. The traditional Gretsch control layout includes individual pickup volumes, master volume, three-way pickup selection, and the distinctive three-position tone switch.

The 6117 may have been a more understated offering than Gretsch\'s glamorous 6120 or White Falcon, but it was still a serious American-made professional instrument—and its connection to players such as Chet Atkins, Eddie Cochran, Duane Eddy, George Harrison, Malcolm Young, and Brian Setzer is part of the larger Gretsch story. This one also comes from the fascinating pre-Baldwin era, when Gretsch guitars were still being built in Brooklyn, and the original hard-shell case makes the package that much more compelling. A 1966 Brooklyn-made Gretsch with its original case is the kind of guitar that has both history and real musical personality. If you\'ve been looking for a vintage Gretsch with the right combination of age, character, and classic Gretsch tone, this is one to take seriously. Complete with the original case, this type of opportunity is especially rare. So - take a close look, listen to what those HiLo\'Trons have to say, and don\'t wait around - once this one\'s gone - it\'s gone.

*Attempts have been made to show the following in the pictures. However, there are cosmetic nicks and scuffs that are not unexpected with a vintage instrument. There is checking and discoloration on the binding and checking on the finish in several places on the body of the instrument. There is an active crack in the finish on the front and back of the headstock and on the back of the neck. This is not going into the wood - just the finish. Additionally, the bottom strap button is aftermarket (the original strap button is in the case). The case is original and is in Very solid shape; however, it\'s missing some tolex and the handle appears a bit marred.
