Stated clearly on the copyright page: "Published June, 1936. Reprinted June, 1936. July, 1936 (Three times)." This represents the historic fifth printing overall, released during the exact launch window of the book's initial explosion in global popularity. Bound in the iconic original gray cloth boards with crisp blue lettering. No dust jacket.
2. Vintage June 1936 Book-of-the-Month Club News Excerpt Pages
A scarce and unique piece of literary ephemera. This insert consists of the specific feature pages removed from the June 1936 BOMC News issue. It contains the historic, premier review of the novel by famed critic Henry Seidel Canby announcing it as the July selection, an early biographical profile on Margaret Mitchell ("Miss Peggy") detailing her writing process in Atlanta, and the illustrative Currier & Ives print reproduction of "The Old Plantation Home."
Condition Report:
- The Book: Excellent antique condition. The text block is remarkably tight, square, and firm. Pages show beautiful, uniform age-toning but remain exceptionally clean and free of heavy stray markings, tears, or major flaws. Very light external shelf wear to the spine edges and corners commensurate with age.
- The BOMC Excerpt: Very Good antique condition. The paper remains clean with bold, legible typography. Features original mail-folding creases from when it was stored inside the book, with minor uniform age-toning. Free of heavy stains, tape repairs, or major tears.
