JONATHAN TRUMBULL SR. (1710-1785) was the last colonial Governor and first statehood Governor of Connecticut. Trumbull was a friend and advisor to Gen. George Washington throughout the Revolutionary War period, dedicating the resources of Connecticut to the fight of independence. Washington declared him “the first of the patriots.” When Washington was desperate for men or food during the war, He turned to “Brother Jonathan.”
Offering a one-page, 6 x 6, document signed “Jonth Trumbull” as a Windham County, Connecticut probate judge. The document is a warrant to the Sheriff of Windham County and constables of the town of Lebanon, concerning a Bezeleel Badger, who was in debt for one pound, sixteen shillings & five pence to Peter Lanman, a prominent and wealthy colonial merchant and shipping magnate, based in Norwich.

Document is in good condition with unevenly torn and curled edges and a one stain. Nice docketing on verso.
