Flavio Poli
Società Veneziana Conterie Cristallerie (SVCC), Murano
Sommerso vase, circa 1964-66
Thick-walled sommerso vase executed in deep teal glass encased within a pale lavender outer layer, the mass articulated in a restrained, architectural block form with softened corners. The heavy, optically clear glass demonstrates controlled postwar Murano encasement, with a fire-polished rim and polished base. Retains original SVCC Murano label.
The present vase corresponds stylistically to the early postwar sommerso designs developed by Flavio Poli during his period at Seguso Vetri d’Arte. The form and chromatic restraint anticipate Poli’s canonical Seguso works of the late 1950s, reflecting continuity in his mass-driven design language across furnaces.
