A Masterpiece of Roman Jewelry
This is an exceptional example of late Roman orfèvrerie, featuring intricate decorative techniques that are rarely found in such well-preserved condition.
The Design: A sophisticated twisted-wire hoop (anneaux torsadé) with shoulders adorned with delicate granulation. This level of detail indicates a high-status commission from the period.
The Intaglio: An oval red stone (Carnelian) engraved with a two-handled amphora flanked by star motifs.
Symbolism: In antiquity, the amphora was a powerful symbol of abundance. It was often worn by merchants and traders as a talisman to attract prosperity and success in business.
