Up for sale is a genuinely exceptional 1974 Martin D-35—the kind of "time capsule" survivor that is incredibly difficult to find from this era.
While thousands of D-35s were built in the 1970s, the vast majority have succumbed to the elements over the last 50 years. Most examples on the market suffer from top cracks, the infamous "pickguard crack”, or heavy finish checking. This guitar has none of that.
It features an incredibly clean Sitka spruce top and a stunning 3-piece East Indian rosewood back and sides with no cracks, no noteworthy dings, no scratches, and no structural issues whatsoever.
Beyond its remarkable cosmetic condition, this instrument has received top-tier professional luthier care to ensure it plays flawlessly. Zach Muffoletto at Zmuff Guitars (Greenfield, MA) performed an elective compression refret. This highly precise procedure was to restore the neck to its original form.
During the overhaul, Zach also carved and installed a new bone nut and a custom-compensated bone saddle, finishing the setup with fresh D'Addario strings. The action is dialed in beautifully at a low, buzz-free, and incredibly comfortable 2mm on the low E and 1.5mm on the high E at the 12th fret.
The neck profile is the highly sought-after full C-shape that transitions into a soft V as you move up the bound ebony fretboard, offering a substantial and comfortable feel.
Tonally, this guitar delivers exactly what a great vintage D-35 is famous for: a deep, resonant, and booming low end paired with clear, crisp projection.
