Autographed document signed by Ernest Lawson (1873-1939), the Ashcan School painter and member of The Eight. One page, dated July 1st, 1903: \"Received from Dr. S.C.G. Watkins one hundred and fifty dollars, payment in full for oil painting \'The Acqueduct\' 20 x 24 in. Ernest Lawson.\"
A working provenance document from the height of Lawson\'s Washington Heights period. Aqueduct and High Bridge views along the Harlem River are among his signature subjects, and this receipt records the original sale of one, naming the buyer, the price, and the canvas size in the artist\'s own writing. Of direct interest to Lawson collectors and to provenance research on his aqueduct pictures.

Condition: Good (given age). Some toning and scattered foxing; diagonal crease with partial tear at upper left corner (an embossed stationer\'s crest sits on the flap). Chipping at lower right edge; small pinhole at top. Presents well otherwise.
